**Field Report – Larsen (Kayley × ARCO)

FullBlood Male – Alberta Whelping Stewardship Family: Pat & Craig August 1 Update – Posted Now Exceptional Working‑Dog Intelligence & Early Range Work**

Overview

I’m finally getting this August 1 update online now — and what an update it is. Pat and Craig sent an incredible set of videos showing Larsen working in the county forests, demonstrating the exact FullBlood architecture this line is known for. Larsen is the full brother to Murdock and Sola, and he is tracking right on schedule with the same instinctive intelligence, range awareness, and early working capability.

This is a male with the old‑world northern cognition — not “trick smart,” but problem‑solving smart, terrain smart, working‑dog smart. The videos show it clearly: Larsen is already functioning like a young stud male, mapping terrain, scouting ahead, checking back, and always knowing exactly where Craig is.

Physical Development

  • Weight: ~35 lbs (August 1)
  • Teeth: Permanent teeth coming in
  • Condition: Excellent — raw necks, wings, and correct nutrition
  • Expression: FullBlood dark-line male, strong frame, tightening structure

This is textbook development for a Kayley × ARCO son. The frame is building correctly, the musculature is forming, and the early stud-dog behaviours are emerging.

Working Intelligence & Terrain Behaviour

Pat and Craig describe Larsen as:

  • Exceptionally smart
  • Working-dog smart, not trick smart
  • Problem-solving oriented
  • Able to figure things out independently
  • Strong recall — verbal and non-verbal

The videos confirm all of this.

Range Work

Larsen is already:

  • Scouting ahead
  • Checking back
  • Tracking Craig’s movement
  • Maintaining correct working range
  • Reading terrain calmly
  • Navigating forest structure with confidence

This is the same instinctive pattern seen in Murdock — but Larsen shows even more early independence and problem-solving clarity.

Handler Awareness

In every clip, Larsen:

  • Knows exactly where Craig is
  • Adjusts his movement based on Craig’s position
  • Uses non-verbal recall cues
  • Maintains a working partnership rather than dependency

This is elite-level FullBlood cognition at a very young age.

Stud-Dog Behaviour Emerging

One of the most striking elements in the videos is Larsen’s territorial marking. He is already:

  • Marking key points
  • Claiming space
  • Establishing his presence
  • Showing early stud-dog confidence

This is the same behavioural architecture seen in ARCO and the old males — early territorial intelligence paired with calm confidence.

Diet & Development

Craig notes:

  • Loves raw necks and wings
  • Excellent appetite
  • Strong digestive stability
  • Good weight and muscle development

This is exactly what a FullBlood male needs at this stage — high-quality raw, bone content, and natural chewing materials to support jaw development and tooth transition.

Future Work: Bike Joring

Craig mentioned interest in bike joring once Larsen is fully grown. That is an excellent fit for this line. The FullBlood males excel at:

  • Steady pulling
  • Terrain reading
  • Pace control
  • Long-range endurance

When Larsen reaches full maturity (18–24 months), he will be an outstanding joring partner. I can prepare a full guidance note on timing, harness type, and developmental stages whenever you want.

Stewardship Assessment

Pat and Craig are doing phenomenal work:

  • Early terrain exposure
  • Off-leash development
  • Non-verbal recall training
  • Raw diet and correct nutrition
  • Calm, confident handling
  • Allowing Larsen to think, solve, and explore

This is exactly how a FullBlood male should be raised. Larsen is thriving under their stewardship.
