About the Full Blood Elkhound

For centuries, the Elkhound existed as a true northern landrace — shaped by terrain, climate, and purpose, not by show rings or modern interpretation. The Full Blood Elkhound represents this original form: the dog that stood beside hunters across Scandinavia long before registries existed.

FullBloodElkhound.com was created to protect that heritage.

This site documents the restoration of the Full Blood population through disciplined, multi‑generation architecture. It explains the three integrated pillars of the restoration:

  • Full Blood Return — preserving and expanding the remaining historic lines
  • Norwegian Return — reintroducing essential northern genetics
  • Jamthund Return — restoring the deep working traits shared across the ancient wolf‑dog continuum

Our mission is to rebuild the Elkhound as it once was: compact, powerful, weatherproof, intelligent, and capable of real northern work. This is a long‑range preservation effort grounded in genetics, structure, and purpose — not cosmetic traits.

Families, researchers, and preservation breeders will find here the definitions, standards, and architecture required to understand and protect the true Elkhound.
